Lake of the Ozarks

The Lake
We started out just hanging out at our hotel and relaxing. The Lake of the Ozarks is a manmade lake in central Missouri used as a reservoir and for all sorts of water sports.

The Lake
Since it is a lake created by damming the Osage River it has a snakelike shape with lots of inlets.

The Lake
We stayed at the Lodge of the Four Seasons. Nice place. The view of the lake, no matter where you stay, seems to always include the rooftops of the covered boat docks.

Ha Ha Tonka State Park
For our first adventure we headed a few miles down the road to Ha Ha Tonka State Park with lots of natural rock formations.

From the Castle Trail in the park you can get nice views of the lake.

Ha Ha Tonka State Park
These are the castle ruins the trail is named for. A businessman from Kansas City started building the castle in 1905. He died shortly after and his sons finished the building in the 1920s. It was destroyed by fire in 1942. The park took ownership in 1978 and worked to stabilize the ruins.

Bridal Cave
After hiking in the park we headed to the Bridal Cave. This is a privately-owned cave not far from the lake.

Bridal Cave
There are wide passages and not so wide passages throughout the cave.

Stalagmites and stalagmites are everywhere in some really complex formations.
